Description
The Director of the Medical Team Nurse Practitioners is a key clinical and operational leader responsible for the oversight, development, and advancement of Nurse Practitioners (NPs) within the inpatient medical program at Franciscan Children’s. This role combines clinical excellence (75%) with dedicated leadership time (25%) to support a growing, high-impact pediatric rehabilitation and complex care program.
This is a unique opportunity to shape the future of advanced practice within a rapidly evolving organization. Over the next several years, Franciscan Children’s will expand clinical programs, grow the NP team, and prepare for the opening of a new state-of-the-art hospital, creating meaningful opportunities for innovation, leadership development, and program building.
The Director will partner closely with physician and nursing leadership to strengthen clinical care delivery, advance NP practice, and lead strategic initiatives in education, professional development, quality improvement, and care model design. This leader will play a critical role in building scalable systems and programs that support both current operations and future growth.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Program Development (25%)
Provide direct leadership, mentorship, and supervision to Medical APRNs, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and professional growth
Lead the development, expansion, and optimization of NP staffing models to meet evolving patient care needs
Partner with physician, nursing, and executive leadership to design and implement new clinical programs and services
Develop and standardize processes for recruitment, onboarding, evaluation, and career advancement of NPs
Champion education initiatives, including orientation programs, ongoing clinical education, and leadership development pathways
Serve as a key driver of quality improvement and process improvement initiatives, supporting NPs in project design, implementation, and dissemination
Promote clarity, visibility, and strategic advancement of the NP role across the organization
Contribute to long-term strategic planning, including preparation for future hospital expansion and program growth
Collaborate with external partners, including Boston Children’s Hospital, to strengthen clinical and academic affiliations
Clinical Responsibilities (75%)
Maintain an active clinical practice as a Nurse Practitioner within the inpatient medical program
Provide high-quality, evidence-based care to children with complex medical conditions, rehabilitation needs, and technology dependence
Model clinical excellence, interdisciplinary collaboration, and family-centered care
Support care coordination and clinical decision-making across the medical unit
Quality, Operations, and Compliance
Partner with leadership to monitor and improve clinical quality, safety, and cost outcomes
Support development and use of data-driven approaches to evaluate program performance
Ensure compliance with all regulatory, accreditation, and institutional standards (e.g., Joint Commission, HIPAA)
Contribute to operational planning, including budgeting and resource allocation as needed
Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Strong leadership and team-building skills, with the ability to mentor and develop advanced practice providers
Demonstrated ability to lead quality improvement and process improvement initiatives
Experience or interest in program development, clinical operations, and care model innovation
Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills
Ability to work effectively in a dynamic, growing clinical environment
Commitment to advancing equity, professionalism, and excellence in patient care
Requirements
Education & Experience
Required: Minimum 7 years of experience as a Nurse Practitioner ; DNP Preferred
Preferred: Prior leadership or management experience in a complex clinical setting
Preferred: Experience in pediatric complex care, rehabilitation, or technology-dependent populations
Preferred: Experience in education, mentorship, or program development
Certification & Licensure
Current National Certification as a Nurse Practitioner
Current Massachusetts NP license
BLS and PALS certification
